Sunday Solon Routes

Saturday Lock 29 Routes

Our group runs are fun, sometimes intense, and always full of camaraderie. Group runs are on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with track workouts on Tuesday evenings. Expect anywhere from a dozen to more than 25 people at each workout.

Saturday Runs

Our Saturday morning runs are on trails and usually at a relaxed pace. There are two Saturday morning options:

Cuyahoga Valley National Park Trail Run
This run is on the Towpath and trails of beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The group meets at 8:00 a.m. a tLock 29 in Peninsula. Lock 29 is very close to the intersection of Route 303/West Streetsboro Road and Akron-Peninsula Road. The pace varies widely and the run can sometimes follow challenging terrain. Expect a 2-hour run of about 12 miles, usually wrapping up by 10 a.m. A hearty breakfast at Hudson's Restaurant in Hudson and a trip to the local specialty running store usually follow. Contact Steve Godale at 330.562.6281 for more information.

South Chagrin Reservation Trail/Road Run
This run is in the South Chagrin Reservation in the Chagrin Falls area. There are two groups: a faster paced group starting at 7:00 AM, and a slower paced group starting at 8:30 AM.   Both groups meet at the sledding hill near the intersection of Miles Road and Chagrin River Road.  The runs go from 4 to 8 miles on the roads and trails.  In the summer, this group will occasionally work in a bike ride, in addition to or in place of the run.  After the run, the groups usually go out for food at either Panera or Caribou Coffee in Solon. Contact John Schetter at 216.464.5197 for more information.

Sunday Solon Runs

The Basics

  • This run, which has been a SERC tradition since our founding, is entirely on the roads and streets in Solon and joins runners with a wide range of abilities.
  • We meet at 8:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Solon Square Shopping Center (near the Chipotle) on the Northwest corner of Route 91 (SOM Center Road) and Aurora Road.
  • The running pace is typically between 6:30-8:30-minute miles. There are those who take off, those who run in the main pack and those who go easy.
  • We leave at 8:00 a.m. sharp.
  • If you're new, get there early and introduce yourself.
  • Breakfast at D&R Bagels follows.

Where do we run?

We follow a 12-mile loop around Solon, with plenty of options for shorter and longer distances. Most club members run the full 12 miles and a few go 15-20+ miles. At about the 6-mile mark, the course passes the Valley Forge Drive house of one of our club members, Dick Cyr, who leaves water for us on his back porch. It is also possible to create a 5-mile course by returning home on SOM Center Road heading north off Pettibone. Maps of all loops are shownhere.

Tuesdays at the Track

Weekly 'Tuesdays at the Track' workouts begin in March and go through November, weather permitting.  We have groups meeting at both Solon High School and Independence High School.  There are two workouts at Solon High School, one starting at 5:00 PM and another at 6:00 PM.  The two starting times are to accommodate the different times runners are able to get to the track.

Solon High School Track Workouts 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM

There are two workouts at Solon High School, one starting at 5:00 PM and another at 6:00 PM.  The two starting times are to accommodate the different times runners are able to get to the track.

5:00 PM Group

Join our group for mile repeats!  A typical workout usually involves a few miles of warm-up, followed by 3x1600 repeats (with 400 recoveries), followed by a couple of miles of cool-down laps.

6:00 PM Group

Join Glen and the 6:00 PM group at the Solon High School track for some speedy intervals.

Independence High School Track Workouts 6:15 PM

There are two workout groups at Independence HS, both starting at 6:15 PM.  An "A" workout for experienced runners and an easier "B" workout for beginners. The "A" group runs about 3 miles of intervals and the "B" group goes about 2 miles. A typical workout consists of a 1-2 mile warm-up followed by 2-3 miles of intervals (200 meters - 1600 meters) and a 1-2 mile warm-down.

All levels of runners are welcome and we make an effort to accommodate all ability levels. For example, one can run a 400 when a faster runner runs a 600. These workouts are challenging but can be fun if we get a big group together. We typically go out for dinner after the workout.  For more information, contact Kurt at 440-237-0511.
